What is a Niche?
A niche is a group of people who have the same interests. In Internet Marketing / Affiliate Marketing this is who you will be marketing your products and information to. For example Dogs is a niche it is very broad. Dog training is a niche in the dog niche. It is also very broad you dig deeper to training Golden Retrievers and even deeper training Golden Retrievers as rescue dogs. You should try to get your niche down to a very specific crowd. To find a niche that will be profitable to you need to find a hungry crowd. The people you want to target are people who have a problem and are having a difficult time finding the right solution. They are looking for a solution to something or to improve something. This is most likely something that is causing them pain. That could be emotional pain, physical pain, financial pain.
This is what marketing is, you find someone with a problem and offer them a solution. It's been happening to you all your life and you never looked at it that way. All you saw was a solution to your problem or pain. For example Buy this pain reliever and get rid of your tension headache 10 times faster than the other pain relievers, or this laundry soap whitens and brightens 10 times better than the other brands!. Pain, headache pain and the pain of having dingy looking clothes. The next time you are watching TV. or reading the newspaper, take note of the commercials and advertisements and think about what problem or pain they are trying to cure for you.
How Do I Find A Niche?
First off let me say if you are just starting off in your Internet Marketing business it is much easier for you to start off in a niche you know something about and have a little passion for. Most likely this would be a hobby, job or something you are quite knowledgeable about. If you can't come up with anything, if you have no hobbies or interests you can check Amazon, magazine.com, Lycos 50, Dogpile SearchSpy, Yahoo Buzz, Ebay Pulse, Ehow, Yahoo Answers, ask.com. Check all these places and see what people are talking about reading etc.. You should be able to find something that will spark some interest. Use your own brain power and think about it. Nail biting, keeping your teenager in line, training your dog to stop pooping in the house, keeping healthy, sports, cars, motorcycles etc. There are hundreds of thousands of niches to market in.
This has been a quick post on finding a niche. Once you identify a niche you have to first determine if it will be profitable, if there are products, how much competition, how many people are searching in the niche, keywords etc. It sounds like a lot but it isn't that bad.
